Christmas and beyond

Hey you,

It's been a while, eh?

As I get older, time seems to go so much faster and this year is no exception. I remember last year's Christmas like it was only a few days ago...and yet this year's Christmas was only a few days ago.

Where does time go?

How can I slow it down?

Christmas this year was really lovely. Alun had to work in the afternoon but we got the morning together so it was great to spend time with him. Alun hates Christmas so every year is a struggle but I think every year that goes by, he hates it a little less. This year, we were both awake at 5:00am because I hadn't turned off my alarms for work so my phone woke us both up.

"Presents?" Al asked. I could hear the excitement in his voice, even though he tries to hide it.

I was so tired, though and it was so early.

I wrapped my arms around Al in bed.

"No. Too early" I whispered. "Go to sleep. Shh"

Alun nodded.

And giggled.

And moved about in bed so much that by 5:30am, I'd had enough.

"Okay okay" I laughed "Presents!"

"Woohoo!"

and with that, Alun and I were gathering around the Christmas tree in our front room, passing gifts to each other and smiling. I think we both did really well. We got each other really thoughtful gifts that we both really liked and it was so great to open gifts together even before the sun was fully up.

We're like big kids so it didn't take us long and we were both yawning once presents were open and colourful ribbon and Christmas wrapping paper was strewn all over the living room floor.

"Second sleeps?" Alun asked.

I nodded. OMG yes.

We both crawled back into bed, laid side-by-side and held hands.

"Merry Christmas, Gorg" Alun whispered, squeezing my hand twice which is his code for "I love you"

"Merry Christmas, baby...I love you, too" I whispered back, smiling.

And within moments, we were both fast asleep.

I guess we both really needed the rest because we slept soundly pretty much all morning and it was almost lunchtime before either of us was awake again. Alun went off to work and I spent the afternoon just pottering about at home.

I love being at home. I'm a definite "home body" (home girl?). Even when Alun and I are on holiday and having a great time sight-seeing and exploring...my heart is longing for home. I love being home and surrounded by familiar things, cocooned in all the things that are warm, safe and lovely. It's my favourite.

Christmas and Boxing day were wonderful days of resting, sleeping and eating.

Now I'm back at work.

10 days

that's how long it took for my friend...let's call him "Adrian"...to open a letter from me. Adrian's had a rough time of late with 2 of his closest friends dying within months of each other. I wanted to send him some support and encouragement in the post so I picked a card with a load of cartoon acorns on the front. The card read "If I had an acorn for every time I thought of you, other people would say I had too many acorns!" then inside, the card said "And they'd be wrong!" It was so cute, even in the store as I read it, I knew I loved it and wanted to buy it for someone. I wrote about how I'd be there for Adrian any time he needed to talk and that he was loved and not alone. I posted it off with a happy smile and hoped it would bless him. I think it took about a week for the card to reach Adrian...but I didn't hear anything back from him for almost 3 weeks all up...because he was scared to open his card. Adrian's anxiety had...

The time Aliens were meant to show up

There I was, sitting on a bus heading around the city. We have free buses that each do a long loop around the city - they're called "Cat" buses for some reason and I love catching them because I can cruise around Perth's prettiest places in air-conditioned comfort.  So good. Anyway. I was on the bus daydreaming away, when a guy in ragged (but clean) clothing came and sat next to me. We rode along in silence for a few moments before he leaned in  and whispered "Aliens are going to come and get me in 3 bus stops from now" Are they?  Wow! That's awesome! (I didn't question this for a second because I still look for care bears in the clouds on every single plane trip I go on). So...I excitedly waited. 2 bus stops went by. One to go. Were they going to beam him up like in an 80's style Sci Fi? Was he going to turn into sparkly particles like people did in Star Trek? Were Aliens going to suspend time and space and while we were all 'frozen' an...
